Christine Andrews
I moved to Cape Town, South Africa, in December 2010. In the first four months of living here I struggled to find a job. Every time I was bored my boyfriend would take me to visit wine estates. We visited 23 wine estates in those four months and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting each one. To record the wine estates I visited, I decided to start a blog (http://westerncapewineries.blogspot.com). This was initially for my own records but turned out to be a great way to help other foreigners decide which wineries to visit when visiting the Western Cape Wineries. With 600 wineries to choose from, I figured visitors could use some help in deciding on which ones to visit.
I started my blog in February 2011 and within a few months it had 1000 hits. I decided to then start my own wine club in April 2011 and introduce my guests to the wine estates I was visiting. Two years down the track, my wine blog has now had over 13,000 hits and there are now 160 people in my wine club. You can have a look at today’s hits by clicking here.
The goal with my wine club wine tasting events was to introduce guests to wine they hadn't tried before. I hold blind tastings so that people cannot judge the wine on the name or price. At the end of the evening after trying ten wines we vote on the wine. The results are always so interesting.....
Anyone is welcome to join my tastings, so if you would like to attend one of these evenings or join my database to be kept up to date with wine club evenings, wine specials or wine tours then please email me on westerncapewineries@gmail.com.
